    4. Tools and Techniques in the Process of Action Research in Education
The tools and techniques in action research can be identified as follows in assisting in the collection of rich and knowledgeable data:
      Observing individuals or groups
      Using audio and videotape recording
      Using structured or semi-structured interviews
      Taking field notes
      Using analytic memoing
      Using or taking photography
      Distributing surveys or questionnaires
Therefore, in my perspective, the most essential and hardest stage in the qualitative research process is data analysis. Qualitative research is a study of the nature of occurrences and is particularly suited for addressing questions about why something is (or is not) seen, evaluating complicated multi-component treatments, and focusing on intervention improvement. To be more specific, document analysis, (non-)participant observations, semi-structured interviews, and focus groups are the most popular data collecting methods. Further, I would like to illustrate that in a school environment, qualitative data may include: classroom observations, a student's work sample with instructor comments, and feedback from a teacher on a student's development. Furthermore, I believe that a transcript from a focus group with parents, audio/visual recordings of a class, and a transcript from a staff meeting are some of the better instances of qualitative data analysis approaches in schools.

Qualitative data can be analysed by writing anecdotal records by observing the child or group, discussing from colleagues about the child or group, interviewing, giving assignments, etc.

  7. It is important to conduct action research after each unit, if required .With the help of colleagues, it may b conducted in more than one subject like Mathematics and Physics, Mathematics and Commerce etc. To collect data, the teacher or teacher educator must design tools in such a way that they are precise and to the point. The tools / questions must be bilingual, that is English and local vernacular local language. The responses to the tools must be of one word type answer or one small sentence type answer or one minute audio. Data collection followed by categorization of data to analyze the data. In this pandemic times, the best way to collect data from students / parents is sharing google sheet allowing respondents to record in verbal or or in the audio form because a class consisting of at most 45 students. Sending SMS to students to get responses in the form of SMS is also feasible( in remote possibility )

    Hypothesis cannot be researchers choice.
if strong base is available we can formulate directional hypothesis.

Purposive sampling technique is used to select the sample.
mostly Non- standardised tool is used to collect data.

Pretest-post-test single group design is used in experimental design.

Correlated t test is used in data analysis.

    Tools used in data collection:

    Observation schedule
    Audio video tape recording
    Structural or Semi-Structural interviews

While collecting the data 3 things has to be looked after:-

    Which tool has to use?
How intervention made to be operative?

    Case study research

    Case is self-explanatory.

  46. Data collection plays a vital role in any kind of research. Because the quality of the research depends on a large extend on this step in the process of Action Research. The same goes with the tools used for data collection as the validity and reliability depends on it. So appropriate tools should be used. One can use more than a tool for his/her Action Research. The following are some of the tools that can be used,
    1. Teacher prepared tests
    2. Classwork and assignments
    3. Questionnaires
    4. Interview with students
    5. Observation schedule
    6. Recordings of the sessions
For qualitative data analysis, I would prefer content analysis technique. In the current scenario, I use my online class recordings as the best data analysis technique which helps me to learn about my learners and about myself too. It helps to bring in positive changes both in learners and the teacher.

Interviews: Interviews are one the most common tools in use. It is because this method can be carried out with one person at a time or groups of people. This tool can be put to use face-to-face or through remote media such as telephone, Video interview on Skype, Zoom or other online meeting platforms. Interviews may be structured, semi-structured or open-ended and can be also sent across in emails or letter.
Case studies and stories of change: Although in some instances A case study may not be considered as a data collection tool in itself, It is still an enlightening compilation of information on a topic. It is often based on information acquired through one or more of the other tools. Case studies can focus individuals, households, communities, and other unit of analysis such as locations, organisations, policies or the environment. Stories of change are like case studies. Stories of change are developed only after a project or programme has started.
Photography, audio and video: The use of photography and video has become increasingly common over recent years thanks to improvements in mobile phone technology, which has enabled people to production of cheap, high quality audio-visual products. This tool is often accompanied by written text or commentaries.

Tools and techniques for data collection in the process of action research in education are -
    1. tests
    2. Questionnaires
    3. interviews
    4. observation schedule
    5. Audio and video etc.
Observation schedule is one of the suitable technique for analysis of qualitative data. Observing a group or sample before and at the end of the action research will definitely give some qualitative data. This data will help others.

  187. Case Studies
A case study is usually an in-depth description of a process, experience, or structure at a single institution. In order to answer a combination of ‘what’ and ‘why’ questions, case studies generally involve a mix of quantitative (i.e., surveys, usage statistics, etc.) and qualitative (i.e., interviews, focus groups, extant document analysis, etc.) data collection techniques. Most often, the researcher will analyze quantitative data first and then use qualitative strategies to look deeper into the meaning of the trends identified in the numerical data.

    Checklists
Checklists structure a person’s observation or evaluation of a performance or artifact. They can be simple lists of criteria that can be marked as present or absent, or can provide space for observer comments. These tools can provide consistency over time or between observers. Checklists can be used for evaluating databases, virtual IM service, the use of library space, or for structuring peer observations of instruction sessions.

    Interviews
In-Depth Interviews include both individual interviews (e.g., one-on-one) as well as “group” interviews (including focus groups). The data can be recorded in a wide variety of ways including stenography, audio recording, video recording or written notes. In depth interviews differ from direct observation primarily in the nature of the interaction. In interviews it is assumed that there is a questioner and one or more interviewees. The purpose of the interview is to probe the ideas of the interviewees about the phenomenon of interest.

Observation Sometimes, the best way to collect data through observation. This can be done directly or indirectly with the subject knowing or unaware that you are observing them. You may choose to collect data through continuous observation or via set time periods depending on your project. You may interpret data you gather using the following mechanisms:

Descriptive observations: you simply write down what you observe
Inferential observations: you may write down an observation that is inferred by the subject’s body language and behavior.
    Evaluative observation:
You may make an inference and therefore a judgment from the behavior. Make sure you can replicate these findings.
    Surveys or Questionnaires
Surveys or questionnaires are instruments used for collecting data in survey research. They usually include a set of standardized questions that explore a specific topic and collect information about demographics, opinions, attitudes, or behaviors.
